"Into the Wild" Intertextual Analysis
During our philosophy project we studied numerous philosophies studied and held throughout the world, from Buddhism to transcendentalism too materialism. One of the philosophies that we studied most deeply was existentialism, primarily through the work of Jon Krakauer in his novel "Into the Wild." At the end of the novel we were tasked with writing a literary analysis where some part of the book was elaborated on, or explained, through the use of intertextual writing. My intertextuality was the duality between Chris McCandless and the novels of Thoreau. It is not an uncommon story, one of self discovery through separation, and my essay follows the idea that Chris McCandless' journey can be interpreted as such a tale.
