SIW (Sophomore Inspire Week)
When presented with a list from which I was supposed to choose my top values for picking a postsecondary school, a list which included but was not limited to such things as sports, geographic location, and social atmosphere, I chose sports and academic programs and atmosphere to be the most important. Sports came first, because I desperately want to play a sport in college, and feel what it’s like to be a part of the family atmosphere that is created among friends on a sports team and be united by common interests. My second choice, academic programs and atmosphere, is of a similar wish to experience college, but also because I firmly believe that going to college and going to classes that are thoroughly boring would be a monumental waste. A best fit college for me is a college with a high level biking or hockey team, that allows me to pursue my studies in a pleasant and engaging manner.
As of right now my primary college goal is to go to college. As for career goals, my goals are slightly more specific, if not a job by name itself. I would like to find a job that allows me to travel, allows me to help people who are less fortunate than myself, allows me to not sit at a desk, and a job that keeps me intellectually stimulated. Feel free to let me know if you find one that fits all of these criteria, I’m still looking. ;) I believe that the most effective way to prepare for a future that is currently still extremely unclear is to keep my grades up, challenge myself in whatever way I can, and study as many things as I think might be even slightly interesting.
Another workshop that we applied ourselves too throughout this week was YouScience. Through this we were told our aptitudes, our strengths and weaknesses, and careers that might best suit us. As far as careers I was apparently made to go into science and math fields, which is good to know. As for aptitudes I am, above all else, a “numerical detective” (means I am especially good with numbers and patterns) and a “sequential thinker” (pretty self explanatory, I am good at thinking through things… sequentially. Told you it was pretty straight forward.) I am great at working with people, no matter who they might be, and I tend to be logical and highly determined. Pretty accurate personality test if I do say so myself, nothing like those Harry Potter quizzes (the sorting hat hat must be rather intelligent, because the internet can’t seem to figure it out.) This knowledge will probably impact my career choices if only by helping to point me towards a career that allows me to be mentally stimulated. It mentioned that I might go a little crazy if I find myself in a job that doesn’t challenge me, whether that be socially or mentally, which is a statement I fully agree with.
